Next up in our "Meet the Team" series, it's Penny from Harrogate College!

Hey there! Please tell us your name, where you are based, and your job title.

I'm Penny Garner and I am an Outreach Assistant at Harrogate College.v

Tell us about your background...

I went to Reading University (a long time ago!) and following the completion of my degree, I did a PGCE in Primary Education. When I qualified as a teacher, I worked in a variety of primary schools and then moved into further education where I taught and had some management roles.

What does an average day look like in your role?

Very varied which is what I love. I can be working with a group of students at College, or doing one to one careers meetings with students, or delivering a workshop in a school or preparing a new presentation. Every day is different and every day is interesting

What has been one of your favourite moments on the project so far?

Taking a group of students on a campus visit to a local university and having a discussion with a student on the coach on the way home about the possibility of him going to university. He had never considered it before and suddenly realised it was a definite option for him.

Why do you think going to college and/or university is important?

Gives you a chance to broaden, widen, deepen your knowledge and understanding of not only a subject, but also of yourself and your skills. Also great places to make really good friends

What is your top tip for someone applying to university?

Choose a subject/course that you love/enjoy/are interested in. And if you change your mind about your course, don't be afraid to tell someone

Finally... what is your favourite inspirational quote?

You only regret the things you don't do
