Next up in our "Meet the Team" series, it's Louisa from our Central Team!

Hey there! Please tell us your name, where you are based, and your job title.

Louisa Dobson, Central Team, Outreach Hub Officer

Tell us about your background...

Yes I studied Music at Huddersfield University and then a Masters Degree in Performance at the University of York. After that I taught singing in local schools and worked as a brand ambassador at Crabtree and Evelyn, so I know a lot about hand cream.. I was then a PA for a regional director for a few years before moving into the Higher Education Sector, working in Widening Participation.

What does an average day look like in your role?

The best thing about my role is that an average day doesn't exist. I spend most of my time traveling around North Yorkshire visiting schools and community groups.

What has been one of your favourite moments on the project so far?

Hearing a young person go from saying that they aren't good enough Higher Education to say that they wanted to go to university after visiting York St John for a campus visit.

Why do you think going to college and/or university is important?

It depends on what you want to do. There are a lot of careers that require a college or university qualification and it's a good idea to check what you need to do your dream job. If you don't have a dream job yet, then college and university are great places to keep all your options open whilst you decide what you'd like to do next. You'll meet people and have new experiences whilst studying a subject you really enjoy.

What is your top tip for someone applying to university?

Make sure you like the town or city as well as the university itself. That's where you'll spend most of your time.

Finally... what is your favourite inspirational quote?

"You don't practice to get it right, you practice so that there is no chance that you can get it wrong."
